Creative rituals for women with dreams and a busy schedule.
There’s a quiet kind of magic that lives in the in-between moments, the messy middle.
The ones before the house wakes up.
The ones when you have a tea in your hand.
The ones where you finally get to sit down after a long day.
If you’re a woman in your 30's, 40's; a mother, a dreamer, a do-it-all and hold-it-all-together type, then you know how easy it is for your creativity to take a backseat. You’ve got lunches to make, meetings to attend, floors to sweep, hearts to hold. Your time is divided, stretched, and often interrupted.
But still, the part of you that loves to write, paint, dream, plan, imagine, that part of you hasn’t gone away. It’s just waiting. Waiting for you to give it five minutes. A soft hello.
So let’s talk about creative rituals; not as lofty, time-consuming routines, but as little everyday moments you can infuse with intention and inspiration.
1. The Five-Minute Flow
Set a timer. Five minutes. Open a notebook or notes app and write without stopping. No editing. No deleting. Just let your thoughts spill. It could be a dream, a poem, a list of things you want. This tiny ritual can be the spark that keeps your creativity lit, even on the busiest days. This tiny ritual can be a moment to talk all the thoughts in your head, and leave them on the paper.
2. A Cup of Something
That morning coffee or evening tea? Turn it into a daily ritual. Light a candle. Read one page of something that makes you feel good. Whisper an affirmation. Put your phone away. Enjoy your hot drink. This isn't about what you do. This is all about the pause.
3. Create One Beautiful Corner
You don’t need a studio to feel inspired. Choose one small space, a shelf, a desk, a bedside table, and fill it with things that speak to your creative self. A print. A quote. A flower in a jar. Let that corner be a reminder: you are allowed to create.
4. Permission to Be Imperfect
Creativity doesn’t need to be polished or perfect to matter. It just needs to exist. So write messy poems. Draw crazy. Journal your thoughts in dot points. Let your rituals be messy, simple, real, because they’re yours. And doing it, is so much more important than any perfection.
5. Let Your Kids See You Create
If you’re a mum, one of the most powerful things you can do is let your children witness your happiness. Let them see you writing, painting, crafting, dreaming. Show them what it looks like to make space for yourself. And allow them to join in. They will love the moment just as much as you do. Family drawing, writing or painting is so fun.
And finally...
Your creativity is not a luxury.
It's a beautiful essential. It's important. It's not something to be pushed aside.
It is something to be embraced.
So make the tea. Write the story. Light the candle. Start where you are; with what you have. That’s more than enough.
